Our 5 Favorite Indian Spices

Posted by Pratik Singh on

Indian cuisine is a beautiful blend of spices that come together to create a fragrant and flavorful meal.

While there are many different types of Indian dishes, some common ingredients include ginger, turmeric, fenugreek leaves, cumin seeds, cardamom pods and coriander seeds.

In this blog post I will share with you our favorite five spices!

1) Turmeric

2) Cumin Seeds

3) Coriander Seeds

4) Cardamom Pods

5) Cayenne Pepper Flakes

1. Turmeric - an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that can be used in curries, rice dishes, and other savory Indian dishes
2. Cumin seeds - these are great for adding flavor to anything from curry to soup
3. Coriander seeds - they have a citrusy flavor that is perfect for soups or stews
4. Cardamom pods - cardamom has a spicy aroma with notes of eucalyptus that is delicious in chai tea or coffee
5. Cayenne pepper flakes - cayenne pepper is the only spice on this list not native to India but it's still very popular there as well as being one of my personal favorites! It can be used in everything from marinades to salsa because it adds heat without overpowering flavors like chili powder does

Let us know in the comments:

1. How do you use turmeric at home (or what are some things you would put it on)?

2. What are some ways you could use cumin seed at home (or how could you incorporate them into your cooking)?

If you’re looking for some new spices to add into your kitchen, then don’t miss this list of five favorite Indian cooking spices.

This is not a comprehensive list as there are many more flavors that make up the rich and robust cuisine of India but these 5 favorites should give you plenty to experiment with until you find your perfect flavor match!

Start by adding cumin seeds, coriander seeds, cardamom pods or even other types like black cardamom and cloves (depending on what dish), turmeric powder and finally cayenne pepper flakes as a base spice mix for your Indian cooking.

These all can be found at any grocery store or on our website in bulk bins so it won't cost much either.
